When Going From Nursery To Big Kid Room, Get The Children Involved
Making the transition from a nursery to a big girl or big boy room is usually harder on the parents than on the children. When the time comes to make the switch from baby room to toddler room, it is helpful to let them get involved in the decorating with things such as the colors, theme and furniture choices.
Give them suggestions for a theme by suggesting cartoon shows or a fairytale as the basis. Taking the baby cribs down might be difficult for some, however, the excitement from the children make the task somewhat simpler. When the crib has been disassembled the remaining items that are nursery oriented should also be removed to have room for big kid stuff.
When shopping for the new bed it is important that the children go shopping as well and be involved in choosing which one they want. Most kids will be drawn to items such as a loft bed, but it is best to get one of the smaller toddler beds for safety.
When you have decided on the theme for the new bedroom, let the child help pick out the quilt sets in order to give them a sense of it being their choice. There are numerous of cute styles available including their favorite cartoon characters.
There will be a lot more toys in their room now so do not forget to get some colorful baskets or containers for storing items. When they have a container for each type of toy it will be much easier for them to put toys away when done playing. There are many styles of containers available made to be kid friendly so choose ones that are durable and made to last.
Clothes will be more apt to be hung in the closet if the child has some brightly colored hangers to put them on. The current dresser can be painted a bright color with new drawer pulls added and it will be like having a brand new.
With all of the newly purchased accessories it will be a good idea to also repaint the room. Take the child to a home improvement store and show them two maybe three different paint choices and let them pick a favorite. A child that has been involved with going from nursery to big kid room will be more apt to keep up with keeping their new room clean and organized.
