LET’S GET THE PARTY STARTED....
What makes a great party? The basic ingredients are of course, food, people, venue and music or entertainment, but when everything is linked together by a unifying theme...now that’s when the party really gets going!.
Having a themed party is a great way to break the ice. Whether it’s girls dressing as fairies or princesses for a 5th Birthday Party or couples getting into the swing of things at a Hawaiian celebration for a fiftieth, there are loads of different themes for loads of fun.
In addition to being a fantastic ice-breaker and talking point, the theme provides the framework for the whole event-Having a party theme acts as the framework around which the whole event can be structured. Having themed parties takes all the guesswork out of planning because it everything can be co-ordinated – from invitations to thank you notes, from the decor to the dress and from the food to the flowers. Even birthday cakes can be decorated according to the chosen theme and fun themed piñatas can be bought from specialist party supply shops.
The larger party supply shops will have a huge range of party themes plus decorations and accessories to match, but here are a couple of tried and tested party ideas that guarantee good times.
One to six year-old children’s birthday parties
Standard party ideas include farm or jungle animals, fairies, princes and princesses, choo-choo trains, superheroes, pink and white Polka Dots, butterflies and bugs, firemen or soldiers, barbie or tinkerbell.
Six-year olds upwards
Younger boys are happy to dress up, but as they get older, they are more conscious of their appearance whereas girls are generally very happy to play the fantasy game. Action parties (superheroes, armies, soldiers etc) are good for boys whilst girls will love anything ‘girly’ – such as pink parties, glamour parties, Hollywood, the Oscars, etc.
Grown-ups
An adult fancy-dress theme will make certain that your party fires up, not fizzles out. Be it a simple colour scheme (such as black and white, black with a dash of colour, all-white, pink etc), a movie theme (eg Great Gatsby) or a vintage theme (eg the Sixties or Seventies), any theme is guaranteed to fire up the festivities . Some other fun party ideas are Flower Power, Bollywood, priests and prostitutes, Hawaiian, denim and diamonds and dressing up according to the first letter of your name (eg Barbara could come as Barbie and Keith could dress up as a Knight).
Another party idea is to base the theme on a country eg Best of British, Stars and Stripes or a ‘G’day mate (Australia).
