How often do you have to sterilize baby plastic bottles?
I have a 3 week old baby. I have been sterilizing the bottles every week. In-between I wash them in hot water and scrub them with soap. Is that okay???? Is it really necessary to sterilize them after every use???
It's so easy to let yourself become lazy when you want to let
something go, when You Are busy taking care of your little one. Some mothers are very lucky to not protect their babies
to the highest degree possible. These mothers later are the
same ones, who allow their children to run outside in the cold
of winter, without wearing a jacket or other warm clothes too.
I felt it was necessary to sterilize plastic bottles more fre-
quently than the glass ones. Plastic absorbs, because it is
pourous. So you need to make sure there is not a speck of
old formula or residue from that. Not that a mere speck could
make the baby sick. But she deserves the best care you
can give her/him. If you use the collapsible inserts in the hollow bottles, then those are the most sterile You Can use. I
had to use those for my second child due to a gas problem
he had. And with our first, I started out nursing, but then had
to switch to formula and so I used the collapsible inserts also.
I used the glass bottles later in their first year before they were
weaned.I never used the plastic, due to absorbtion of
bacteria possibilities. For a three week baby, I'd suggest you
boil your bottles each day and then you'll be assured your
baby won't get any stomach problems. It's better to be overly
cautious, than lax any day. Especially when it involves your
babys' health.
