What causes excessive amounts of mucus to drain from ones eye other than pink eye?
I took my six year old daughter in to see her doctor on monday.Her symptoms were dry cough,small fever,nasal congestion,and vomiting.I thought she at least had a sinus infection but the Dr. said it was just a bad case of the common cold. Tuesday she still had a fever that went as high as 103 and she still was vomiting along with all of her other symptoms. I called the Dr. and they said she probably had a stomach bug on top of the cold that she already had. And now it's wednesday she still has all of the symptoms she had before but her fever has'nt went over 101.9 and now she has a lot of mucus draining from her eyes. I called the Dr. and they said pretty much the same thing they did the day before. Are these symptoms common with the cold?
It could be caused by the cold or it could be something else. If you want to put your mind to rest about the eye drainage, I would set up an appointment with your local optometrist. Many people believe optometrists only fit glasses and contacts. This is a VERY common misconception. I know from personal experience that many optometrists see medical eye conditions. And this is something that is covered under regular health insurance. I don't advise going to her MD for the eye condition because the MD doesn't have the equipment specifically for the eye. I have seen many cases of misdiagnosed eye problems by MDs because they simply don't have the equipment to poperly diagnose the problem. Even if the drainage is from the cold, she may still need an eye drop for the eye symptoms.
